2021年5月22日，我们的“杂交水稻之父”——袁隆平爷爷仙逝了，享年91岁。这是令人悲伤的一天。
袁隆平爷爷是我国杂交水稻的开创者和领头人，半个世纪来，他不畏艰辛、执著追求、大胆开创、勇攀高峰，用10%的耕地，养活了全球20%的人口。推广解决了中国难题，为世界粮食安全做出了巨大的贡献。
无论严寒酷暑，你都会在田间地头看到一位弯着腰的老人在认真地观察禾苗，他走遍了祖国的大江南北。每一寸田地都留下了他的足迹，每一颗稻穗都印着他的丰功伟绩。

袁老的逝世引起巨大轰动，究其原因，便是因为袁隆平着三个字早已不是简单的人物代号，而成为了华夏儿女的'精神寄托。袁隆平爷爷有两个梦想，一个是禾下乘凉梦，另一个就是自己的杂交水稻能风靡全球，禾下乘凉梦已经做到了。距离另一个杂交水稻风靡全球也快成功了。

袁隆平因为儿时的这个愿望，高中毕业后，袁隆平考上了重庆相辉学院（后改名为西南农学院）。1953年，袁隆平毕业后，被分配到湖南安江农校，成了一名教师。

袁隆平手里掌握着上千万元的科研经费，他的生活却极其简朴。
田里的秧苗分蔸了，抽穗了，扬花了，结实了……他跨上摩托车，一溜烟蹿上马路，拐入小径，溜上田埂，矫健的身影闪动在片片绿意葱茏或金黄灿烂的.稻田里。十多年来，他先后换过八九辆不同品牌的摩托车。如今，虽已70余岁高龄，他还是经常骑着摩托车在田间转。
2001年底，在朋友们的劝说下，袁隆平买了一辆赛欧牌家用汽车。朋友对他说，骑摩托车是“肉包铁”，开汽车是“铁包肉”，还是开汽车安全一些。他兴致勃勃地学起开车来，感觉还不错。有时，他把汽车开到了田边。他还笑着说，要去考一个驾驶证哩。
